Creyts creates glass art exploring the intersection of art history and forest ecology.
Forest Allegory
Glass
2018

The piece is based on the 16th century Dutch Vanitas paintings that present a still life in a state of decomposition with various other objects such as skulls, guttering candles, bubbles, etc. These paintings are meant to emphasize the fleeting nature of life. The story I tell is not one of life fleeting, but rather the regenerative nature of fire and life. I researched the post-burn cycle of forest regeneration and have featured those reliant on fires for existence.
